Junction City set for Purple & Gold Game

Junction City fans will be able to get their first glimpse of the Dragons tonight with their annual Purple & Gold Game.

The action begins at 6 p.m. with the junior high with the senior high to follow.

Admission for the event is soap, towels or any kind of donation to the program.

Junction City coach David Carpenter said the Dragons will go out and run plays without the clock running.

“We’re not going to run the clock,” Carpenter said. “We’re just going to get out and run plays, getting out and going live. Since we’re down in numbers, I’ll be swapping in and out a bunch.

“There’s not a Gold team and there’s not a Purple team. It’s just going to be an offensive unit going against a defensive unit. We’ll just change it out as we go along and see.

“We just want to get a good shot of film and see how we’re performing.”

Carpenter added that the game is about self-evaluation with where the Dragons stand with two weeks to go before their season opener against Harmony Grove.

“That’s really what it is,” Carpenter said. “Just get out and let the public come to see what we’ve got and get this good little part on film because it goes better than just a regular little practice.

“We’ll get it filmed and see what we’re doing and how we can correct our mistakes and go from there.”

Carpenter said he is eager to see how his team performs and to see more when watching film.

“That’s it,” Carpenter said. “We just want to get out, bump around a little bit, get up on the game field. It’s dress rehearsal for getting ready for our scrimmage next week and then getting ready for the season.

“Just trying to work some kinks out and do all of the good things that we’re trying to do.”

After tonight’s Purple & Gold Game, the Dragons will begin preparing for their scrimmage next week against Hamburg.
