McNeese Dean honored by FFA

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese State University Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences Dr. Chip LeMieux has been awarded the Honorary American FFA Degree by the Future Farmers of America.

The highest honor awarded by the FFA, this degree recognizes educators who provide outstanding contributions to agriculture through their support of schoolbased agricultural education.

LeMieux has received this degree in recognition of his support for the next generation of FFA leaders. Under LeMieux’s direction, McNeese’s College of Agricultural Sciences regularly hosts FFA career and leadership development events and competitions, giving local high school students the opportunity to gain hands-on industry experience and apply what they’ve learned outside of the classroom.

“It’s an honor to receive this degree,” said LeMieux. “At Mc-Neese, we strive to provide both our students and local high school students with the opportunity to learn about agriculture and get experience in the industry and really encourage them to participate in these activities as a way to learn and apply their knowledge. It’s fun and exciting and we’ll continue to find ways to engage with these students. I’m humbled that the FFA has chosen to recognize me for this work.”

An agricultural sciences professor at McNeese for 18 years, LeMieux received his doctorate, Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in agriculture from Louisiana State University.

In addition to FFA events, he oversees teaching and outreach programs in the Harold and Pearl Dripps School of Agricultural Sciences, including research at three university farms and the Mc-Neese CAMPP meat processing facility.

LeMieux received the award at the 93rd National FFA Convention & Expo, to be held virtually, on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
