Barbe senior scholarship

semifinalist

Isaac Broussard, a senior at Barbe High School, is one of 477 semifinalists for the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship. This highly selective scholarship provides highachieving students with financial need up to $40,000 annually for four years of college, to enable them to attend a top college or university.

The semifinalists were chosen from a pool of over 5,300 applicants. About 60 semifinalists will be selected to receive the scholarship. The 2020 Cooke College Scholarship recipients will be announced in April.

Broussard is one of only three semifinalists in Louisiana. He has also been accepted and offered a full academic scholarship to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Broussard was named a Horatio Alger State Scholar for Louisiana, a National Merit Semi-Finalist, a S.C.S. Noonan Scholar, a Questbridge College Prep Scholar, and is a recipient of the High School Pioneer High School Academics Research Program for research in the field of Coding Theory and Cryptography.

Cooke College Scholars are selected based on exceptional academic ability and achievement, financial need, persistence, service to others and leadership. Students must be current high school seniors residing in the United States. Scholarships are awarded without respect to religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, citizenship status, geographic region, race or ethnicity.

Dempsey on honor roll

IRVING, Texas — Emily Dempsey of Lake Charles is one of more than 300 University of Dallas undergraduate students named to the fall 2019 Honor Roll for earning a semester grade-point average between 3.0-3.49.

Dempsey is majoring in theology.

Guth named to dean’s list

IRVING, Texas — Hailey Guth of Lake Charles is one of nearly 500 University of Dallas undergraduate students named to the fall 2019 dean’s list for earning a semester greadepoint average of 3.5 or higher.

Guth is majoring in theology.

McNeese career fair

The McNeese State University 2020 Spring Career Fair will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, in the Recreational Complex on campus. All McNeese, as well as alumni, can participate. Participating students should dress professionally and bring copies of their resume to give to recruiters upon request. Students can also make appointments to have their resumes reviewed before the fair at the Career and Student Development Center in Kaufman 117.
