Cedarhurst expanding its facility

Cedarhurst Senior Living is planning a $1.5 million expansion of its Jacksonville assisted-living community.

The expansion will add 10 memory care apartments, bringing the facility’s number of memory care apartments to 28. Memory care apartments at Cedarhurst are private, secure and designed for people with dementia diagnoses, and the staff is trained to provide individualized care.

Eight to 10 new care-giving jobs are expected to accompany the expansion, spokesman Jeff Beckner said.

There is a growing need for memory care, according to Angela Keeven, Cedarhurst vice president for organizational development.

“With the aging Baby Boom generation, the Alzheimer’s Association predicts an increase of at least 14% in the number of people affected by this disease by 2025,” Keeven said. “At Cedarhurst, we’ll work to keep pace with this increase … to continue providing the individualized care each resident needs and deserves.”

The Jacksonville Cedarhurst location is one of 35 in operation and seven under construction in Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Georgia and Oklahoma.

In addition to the memory care apartments, the Jacksonville community has 50 assisted-living apartments of different sizes and amenities, including dining, a wellness center, on-site therapy and transportation to medical appointments.

The construction is not expected to disrupt Cedarhurst residents.
