Carpenter returning to lead Junction City football

David Carpenter is returning to lead the Junction City football program.

The school made the announcement in a release posted on the school's website on Wednesday.

The release said that Carpenter will be joining the off-season program after spring break later this month and will formally take over as the Dragons’ head coach on July 1.

The Junction City Board of Directors approved the action at its regular March meeting.

The release also added that current head coach Brad Smith will remain as the defensive coordinator.

Carpenter, who has a coaching record of 242-93-1 and was inducted into the Arkansas High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2019, guided the Dragons to six state titles in football before retiring in 2016.
