East Dennis.

A fishing schooner hauled up nt tho wharf was robbed somo night during tbe week of somo clothing, n small quantity of codfish and somo fishing gear. There must bo tramps about hero.

— Tho "Tornado Mill," lately croctod nt "Cole's pond," lends an nir of improvement to tho surrounding uninhabited territory.

— Wo notico in tho Register of tho 18th inst., that J, S, H. objects to our instance of pioty mentioned iu your edition of the 4th iust. Ho tolls us "ho wiiuti no stock iu tliat system of philosophy whioh would lot so valliable an ass perish in tho d tc'b," .'.<•. Wo have no leisure to nuiHaok tho soriptnro for passages to demonstrate our instance of pioty an unobjootiauul one. Tho 3d commandment reads, "Romouibor tho Sabbath day nud keep it holy."

Regarding the ass in tho ditch, our pious neighbor very reasonably concluded in his own mind that he (tho ass) would survive till Monday morning, when ho could be drawn out with cleaner bauds aud a more appoving conscience. Aud surely J. S. H. knows "Ono self-nifprovlng hour whole yours outweighs Ol stupid tamers, aud ol loud huzzus." But a storm came on, lasting many days, and tho ass perished ; but tho good man still lives, exulting iu the possession ol tenets that no "ass" can traduce, nor the most scholastic derision debase. Were wo sure that tho Register was open to tho publics tions of discussions of tho sort which J.S. II., by his criticisms, soems eagor'to engage iu, we might say a word in defence of our neighbor's pioty.

— We were not heretofore awaro flio Register had an East Dennis correspondent, us J. S. H. suggests. It's something, however, in this dearth of overythiug everywhere to have an abundance of even correspondents ; and lot UB grasp the prr «>nt opportunity of sympathizing with her who "lost all she never had."

When any one of the many abler hands ainong us it ready to take up tuo pen wo are ready to lay it dowu. But inasmuch as our attempts have won us tho honor of such a critic, wo shall endeavor to win further honors from tho same source. If J. S. H. detected a vein of sarcasm in our paragraph relating to himself, theio was no sarcastic thoughts in onr mind at tho writing. Extravagance there might be, but that was owing to onr high opinion of tho man ; and since tho matter roeius rather dissatisfaotery to him, we promise to guard against all personalities in future, unless our insi.mc.-i of piety, or anything cloe, nro wantonly assailed. J. o.

A contempoi-ary tells his readers "How U> lay up money." But what a man wants to kjow n bow fo get money. Ho can lay it up—or dowu, either—fast enough without directions.
