Congregational Activities

THE TEMPLE Dr. Silver will occupy the pulpit at the Sunday morning service which begins at 10:30 o'clock. A recital of sacred music by A. R. Willard begins at 10:15. Doors open at 10 o'clock. Friday evening vesper services will be held from 5:30 to 6 o'clock in Gries Memorial Chapel. The Temple Women's Association announced its executive officers for 1947-48 at its annual meeting held on April 9. Mrs. Jack P. Roth remains as president for the second term; Mrs. Bertram J. Krohngold has been elected first vice president; Mrs. S. P. Schoenberger, treasurer; Mrs. Stuart Halle, assistant treasurer; Mrs. Louis Herman, recording secretary; Mrs. Stanley Diener, corresponding secretary; Mrs. E. R. Bergman, financial secretary; and Mrs. William Fertel, auditor. Rabbi Nodel will speak on the "Church of the Air" Sunday, April 20, from 9 to 9:30 a.m.

A debate on the proposal to partition Palestine took place last Sunday morning in Gries Memorial Chapel between the teams of the Temple and Temple Israel of Detroit. The decision by the judges was awarded to Temple Israel which took the negative side of the question. Representing Temple Israel were Isabel King, Allen Siegel and Fred Stoller. Mrs. Morris Stoller was their chaperone. The Temple team consisted of David Auerbach, Werner Dannhauser and Julius Silberger. Alvin Kitay was chairman of the debate. About 125 students of the high school department and confirmation class listened to the debate. James Senor is coach of the Temnle debate team.

EUCLID AVENUE TEMPLE

"How Long, O Britain!" is the titlp of the sermon to be delivered by Rabbi Samuel M. Silver at the religious service tonight at the Euclid Avenue Temple. The service begins at 8 p.m. Basing his observations on two books recently written by members of the Anglo-American Commission of Inquiry for Palestine, Rabbi Silver will deal with the British policy in Palestine. The books are "Behind the Silken Curtain" by Bartley C. Crum, of San Francisco, and "Palestine Mission" by Richard Crossman, member of Parliament.

The Euclid Avenue Temple choir under the direction of Reuben Caplin, will furnish the ritual music for the service.

Tomorrow morning at 11 a.m., the regular Sabbath service will be held in the chapel. Rabbi Silver and soloist, Samuel C. Levine will officiate, with Paul Allen Beymer at the organ.

A dramatic reading by Ann Birk Kuper, internationally celebrated diseuse will feature the annual meeting of the Sisterhood on Tuesday, April 22, at 2 p.m., after the sewing and lunch.

The Men's Club announces that a few reservations are left for its round table and dinner to take place this Tuesday evening, April 22, at 6:30 p.m., at the Hickory Grill. Guest speaker is Harry Barron, executive director of: the Jewish Community Council, whose subject will be "Gentlemen of the Jewry!" an exposition of the workings of the Council in the preservation of the good name of the Jpwish people.

The Alumni Association's 3 5 th anniversary dinner dance, is scheduled for Saturday evening, April 26, at the Hotel Carter.

TEMPLE ON THE HEIGHTS Daily service? are conducted in the Kohn Chapel at 7 a.m. and 7

p. m., on Sunday at 8 a. m. On Saturday in the temple proper services at 8:45 a.m. Rabbi Rosenthal and Cantor Meisels officiate. Junior services under the direction of Rabbi George Ende for students of the religious school in the dining hall on Saturday, at 10:20 a.m. Temple Zionist music evening is scheduled for Thursday, April 24. Harry Gendel will perform. Confirmation class meets regularly for rehearsals on Thursday afternoons at 4:20 in the temple.

CLEVELAND JEWISH CENTER Kabbalath Sabbath services will be held at 6:45 p.m. Sabbath morning services begin at 9:15 a.m. The Bar Mitzvah of Harlan Diamond, son of Dr. and Mrs. Lee Diamond, will take place this Sabbath morning at Park Chapel, 9:30 a.m. Daily services are held at Park Beth Hamedrosh at 7:30 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. On Sunday, the services begin at 8 a. m.

Sunday, at 3 p.m., in the library, a Camp Reunion is being planned for children who have attended Park Day Camp for the past two years. The Young People's League will hold a tea dance on Sunday afternoon, in Park Chapel, 3 p. m.

Monday evening, April 21, the Adult School will hold its last official classes, from 8 p. m. to 10 p. m. Tuesday morning, 10:30 a.m. the Sisterhood Sewing Group meets. Wednesday evening, the Park Nursery School will hold an open house for parents of children attending school.

OHEB ZEDEK CONGREGATION Kabbalath Shabbos services will be held this evening, April 18, in the Oheb Zedek Synagog, 10915 Morison Avenue, and at Oheb Zedek on the Heights, 1970 Taylor Road, at 6:45 p.m. Candle lighting time is at 6:51 p.m. Services for Shabbos Shemini will be held in the main synagogue at 8:30 a.m., and at Oheb Zedek on the Heights at 9 a.m. Milton Moskowitz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Moskowitz, 10610 Lee Avenue, will be the Bar Mitzvah in the main synagogue. Rabbi Louis Engelberg will officiate and address the Bar Mitzvah, and Cantor Doppelt will conduct services for Shabbos M'vorchim. Kiddush will be served in the auditorium following services in the synagogue.

The Rambam Congregation meets in the Beth Hamedrosh at 9 o'clock each Sabbath morning. Children's services are at 9:30 a.m. in the school annex of the main synagogue, and at 10 a.m. at Oheb Zedek on the Heights. Rev. Schiffman meets with the Sabbath afternoon study group in the main synagogue at 5:30 p.m. Mincha is at 6:30 p.m., followed by Sholosh Seudoth and Maariv services. The Sabbath ends at 7:40 p.m. Breakfast will be served on Sunday morning following the fathers and sons Minyan at 8 a.m. Daily services are at 6:45 p.m. and 7 a.m.

COMMUNITY TEMPLE

Rabbi Harold Goldfarb will conduct the service on Friday, April 18. He will be assisted in the service by Charles DeHarrack, organist, and the choir. Rabbi Edward M. Tenenbaum of Temple B'nai Israel of Saginaw, Michigan, will be the guest speaker that evening. Following the service there will be an Oneg Shabbat at which the Men's Club will be hosts.

There will be a service Saturday morning, April 19. At that time Harold Friedman will be Bar Mitzvan.

Community Temple Alumni will hold their annual Alumni-confirmation class party on Saturday, April 19, at 8 p. m., in the auditorium, which will be transformed into a barn for the evening for Farmer O'Bloom's Barn Dance. They will attend the dance as farmers and farmerettes.

Community Temple Women will hold the final meeting of the study group on Tuesday, April 22, at 2

p. m., in the auditorium. Dr. Etta Friedlander will be guest speaker. She has chosen as her subject "Middle East Politics as Related to the Jewish Problem."

Commui.ity Temple Women will sponsor their annual mother-daughter party on Sunday, April 27, at 3 p. m. Mrs. Charles Udelf is chairman and is arranging the program.

GATES OF HOPE CONGREGATION This Friday evening, April 18, services will start at 8:15. Dr. Kronheim will talk on "A Great Jewish Woman." The memory of Emma Lazarus will be honored on the 60th anniversary of her death in this sermon. Sunday, April 20, at 9 a.m., high school department meets; at 10 a.m., Sunday school. Wednesday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m., a regular meeting of the Hatikvah youth group will be held.

KINSMAN JEWISH CENTER Kabbalath Sabbath services at sunset. Saturday morning services at 8:45 a.m. Rabbi David L. Genuth will speak before Mussaf on the subject "The Dietary Laws and Jewish Nationalism." Rev. Aaron

S. Gold will chant the services. Saturday afternoon Rabbi Genuth will begin a series of lectures on "The Ethics of the Fathers" followed by Mincha and Sholosh Seudoth. Daily services at 7 a. m. and 7 p. m. Sunday at 8 a.m. The Sisterhood will meet Tuesday, April 22, at 8 p. m. The Soshil-Lites will meet at 8:30 p.m. Activities of the Post-Bar Mitzvah Class will include gym every Wednesday night at the Shaker Heights High Junior School and a spring social. Rev. Aaron S. Gold is supervising this group and is preparing a program of cultural, educational and social activities.
