BEST CHARTERS AND TOURS San Antonio Bike Tours

Tour offers cyclists a ‘great experience’ in S.A.

San Antonio Bike Tours owner and chief guide Steve Wood said he offers “a great experience” for those curious about the Alamo City.

As a certified tour guide and president of the Professional Tour Guide Association of San Antonio, Wood said he provides accurate information on the city’s culture, art, history and architecture while escorting customers around town on three-wheeled bicycles that allow riders to relax on their backs while they pedal.

In a city thriving on tourism, Wood has found a successful niche. San Antonio Bike Tours won Readers’ Choice for Best Charters and Tours.

“I’m darn happy,” Wood said of the recognition.

Wood launched the business in 2010. He offers two-hour, four-hour and six-hour tours. Prices range from $75 to $200 per person.

Most popular is the River and Missions tour package. That ride winds along the San Antonio River to Mission San José.

Ranking second in popularity is The Downtowner tour package, an excursion cruising through downtown and the King William District.

Other tour packages include Brackenridge Park, the Historic Downtowner, Park and Gardens, Neighborhood and Mission, World Heritage Tour and The Grand Tour.

Each guest uses a radio with a headset so they hear Wood clearly without him having to shout.

Some of the rides include snacks or lunch. “We never go to chain restaurants. We go to local places that provide a really nice flavor of San Antonio,” Wood said.

Riders must be at least 13 years old and at least 5 feet tall to take one of the tours.
