PROVIDENCE — Public art never closes.

In the age of the new coronavirus, most businesses are closed, events are canceled and people are being told to hole up in their homes.

One of the few activities left to us, it seems, is walking outdoors — alone or while keeping a safe distance from others, of course.

To help make those walks more engaging, the Avenue Concept, a nonprofit that supports the creation and installation of art in public spaces, has created two self-guided walking tours of Providence artwork, complete with maps, prompts and questions to get the viewer thinking about each piece.

One route takes walkers to 13 sculptures and murals downtown, and the other route winds past a series of murals on Providence’s South Side and West End.

Each of the self-guided tours presents an attractive alternative to binging on yet another Netflix series.
