WARWICK — A man was badly burned and had to be rescued from a fire at a house on Riverside Drive, according to the Warwick Fire Department.
Firefighters had to pull the unidentified adult male from the single-story house on 136 Riverside Drive, according to Battalion Chief Alan Gouveia. He suffered “serious burns” and was taken to a hospital, Gouveia said.
The fire, reported at 8:15 p.m. Monday, badly damaged the house and left it uninhabitable, according to Gouveia. Some 18 firefighters turned out and had the fire put out within 15 to 20 minutes, according to Gouveia. He said the cause is under investigation.
Three firefighters were injured when two fire engines collided on Tidewater Drive as they were heading to the fire. The firefighters were treated at a hospital and released, according to Gouveia. jperry@ providence-journal.com
