Real Jobs partnerships awarded $2.6 million

TechHire Rhode Island: $900,000 to train 200 people Opportunity@Work Inc. and partners will train and place under-represented and overlooked Rhode Islanders into entry-level technology jobs.

Employer Partners: Atrion — A Carousel Co., Datarista, Envision Technology Advisors, Johnson & Johnson, Kenzan Media, SENEDIA, Virgin Pulse

Process Technologist of the Future Boot Camp: $394,124 to train 30 people Westerly Education Center and partners will train “process technologists” in pharmaceuticals, medical research, environmental testing, chemical and textile manufacturing, and beverage brewing.

Employer Partners: Pfizer, Thielsch Engineering, Eurofins Lancaster Labs, Toray Plastics America Inc., Amgen, Rhodes Pharmaceutical, Tedor Pharmaceutical, Greysail Brewing Co., Kenyon Industries, Eurofins Spectrum Analysis, Roger Williams Medical Center

PVD HealthWorks: $300,000 to train 50 people City of Providence / Office of Economic Opportunity and partners will work with healthcare and social-assistance groups to create training programs and help qualified professionals find jobs.

Employer Partners: Lifespan Corp., Care New England, CVS Health, Providence Community Health Center, Groden Network, ReFocus, CCAP, CareLink

Social Enterprise Partnership: $175,000 to train 200 people Social Enterprise Greenhouse and partners will offer social entrepreneurs with resources, networks and expertise to grow their businesses, with a focus on food, health and wellness, and the environment.

Employer Partners: Optimity Advisors, Blount Fine Foods, United Natural Foods, Delta Dental, Blue Cross Blue Shield R.I.

Investing and Strengthening Workforce Development in “Green Collar” Jobs: $151,822 to train 50 people The R.I. Nursery and Landscape Association and partners will pilot a landscaping apprenticeship program that will include a two-year degree program.

Employer Partners: Fleurs Inc., Wild and Scenic, The Farmer’s Daughter, Shoreline Landscaping, Earth Care Farm

Teamsters Local 251 Driver Training: $150,000 to train 30 people Teamsters Local 251 Driving School and partners will train commercial truck drivers in eight-week course.

Employer Partners: YRC Freight, New Penn Motor Express, ABF Freight, DMS, Centrex Distributors

Workforce STAT Statewide Partnership: $150,000 to train 100 people Rhode Island Hospital, Lifespan and partners will rely on data and experiential training to prepare entry-level adults for health-care jobs.

Employer Partners: R.I. Hospital, Newport Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, Lifespan Corporate Services, Homefront Health Care

Commercial Fisheries Apprenticeship Program: $149,700 to train 15 people East Farm Commercial Fisheries Center of R.I. and partners will recruit and train state residents to become the next generation of commercial fishermen.

Employer Partners: The Town Dock, Fox Fisheries, Goldenwood Fisheries, Virginia Marise Fisheries, Ocean State’s Fisherman Assoc., R.I. Commercial Fisherman’s Assoc., R.I. Lobsterman’s Assoc., R.I. Shellfisherman’s Assoc., R.I. Monkfisherman’s Assoc., Point Judith Memorial Foundation, Atlantic Offshore Lobsterman’s Assoc., R.I. Party & Charter Boat Assoc.

R.I. Wind Energy Technology Career Pathway System: $100,000 North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce and partners will develop the necessary curriculum to train future employees for the fast-emerging wind energy technology industry. No one will be trained initially.

Employer Partners: Aladdin Electric, Vensys Energy, R.I. Fast Ferry, Anvil International, Quonset Development Corp., UA-Local 51

Solar Photovoltaic Industry: $80,000 to train 40 people Office of Energy Resources and partners will train electricians to meet the state’s future solar needs for installing rooftop solar systems on homes and businesses.

Employer Partners: Newport Solar, SolarFlair Energy Inc., SunWatt Solar, Trinity Solar, Bright Planet Solar Inc., Clean Energy Collective, RGS Energy
