Former EHS standout commits to Cal State Bakersfield

Former El Dorado basketball standout Czar Perry announced this week he has committed to play at Cal State Bakersfield.

Perry, a 6-2 guard, just wrapped up his sophomore season at Holmes Community College in Mississippi.

“I chose Cal State because when I first went to visit it felt like home and they really care about their players,” Perry said on Tuesday.

“They make sure you’re successful in the classroom and make sure their student-athletes graduate.”

Perry, who led El Dorado in scoring as a senior when the Wildcats advanced to the 6A State championship game, signed with Northwestern State out of high school.

After a stop or two, he ended up at Holmes, where he helped the Bulldogs to a 17-10 record.

“I went to Holmes to just start all over again to get put in a better situation than I was in my freshman year,” said Perry.

“I lost my mentality I had and my vision got blurry. So by me attending Holmes, I gained my killer mentality back and now my vision is clear and I’m ready to go to Cal State and work hard and accomplish my goals.”

Perry played in all 27 games at Holmes, which lost to Pearl River 57-52 in the championship game of the Region XXIII Tournament on Saturday.

He averaged 14.4 points and 5 assists per game while shooting 45.2 percent from the field and 72 percent at the free throw line.
