AAA closing senior centers, offering meal option

The Somerset County Area Agency on Aging is closing its senior centers amid COVID-19 concerns.

Agency Director James T. Yoder said that starting Monday the centers will be closed through March 27.

“We’ve been getting directives from (the Department of Aging) about things the past couple of days,” he said. “I thought we would be proactive about this so there is no confusion next week.”

There will be no center meals available Monday. On Tuesday the agency will offer a drive-thru service for those who attend the centers and may not be able to prepare a lunchtime meal on their own. The homebound meal delivery program will continue uninterrupted.

To request a meal an individual must contact their local senior center by noon the previous day.

“It is highly recommended if you are able to cook for yourself, we ask during this time you do so and remain at home,” he said.

The agency has senior centers in Boswell, Central City, Conemaugh Township, Confluence, Meyersdale, Somerset and Windber.

Questions or concerns may be addressed to the agency at 814-443-2681.
