BC classes available in Shafter

Bakersfield College is now offering courses in Shafter.

Recognizing a lack of higher education options for those living in Wasco, Shafter and McFarland, Kern Community College District is starting to offer classes at Shafter Learning Center and Shafter High School, district officials announced this week.

The district encouraged those interested to take part in an express one-day enrollment event Tuesday.

The two facilities where KCCD will begin to offer courses are part of Bakersfield College’s movement to reach out to rural communities. Initial course offerings will include general education courses that apply to a BC degree, or transfer to local four-year schools. BC will also expand student support services to those locations, including counseling and financial aid advising.

The district says it will enroll 500 students each semester in Shafter.
