Women in STEM talk slated for Monday

U.S. Energy Department official Paula Gant will talk about women in science, technology, engineering and math at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23, in the SEED Center, 4310 Ryan St.

Gant, principal deputy assistant secretary of the department’s Office of International Affairs, is a native of Louisiana. She received a bachelor’s in economics from McNeese State University and a doctorate in economics from Auburn University.

The International Affairs Office is responsible for international cooperation in energy, science and technology.

Previously, Gant served as the deputy assistant secretary for oil and natural gas in the DOE’s Office of Fossil Energy. In that position, she administered domestic and international oil and gas programs, including policy analysis and liquefied natural gas import and export authorization.

Gant has also worked for the American Gas Association and Duke Energy and has served on the faculties of Louisiana State University and the University of Louisville.
