McNeese to host

band contest

McNeese State University will host the Gulf Coast Marching Band Championship on Saturday, Oct. 28, in Cowboy Stadium.

Admission will be $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Gates will open at 1 p.m.; the event will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Nearly 30 high school bands from Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas will participate.

Bands will be judged by a panel of music educators from Louisiana, Georgia, Alabama and Pennsylvania. Participating Louisiana high schools include Barbe, DeRidder, Iowa, Lake Arthur, Merryville, Sam Houston, South Beauregard, Sulphur and Westlake.

The Pride of the McNeese Marching Band and the Cowgirl Kickers dance team will conclude the event with exhibition performances at 9:15 p.m.

Fall Preview Day

slated for Saturday

McNeese State University will hold its Fall Preview Day 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14.

Registration and welcome presentations will begin in the McNeese Recreational Complex. Students and families will take campus tours and learn about financial aid and student life.

Students will receive free admission to the McNeese vs. Incarnate Word football game, which will be at 6 p.m. in Cowboy Stadium.

Parents and guests can buy tickets to the game at the ticket office in the Doland Field House.

Emmi Lancon to give

free senior recital

Emmi Lancon of Lake Charles will give a free senior recital at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, in the Tritico Theatre in McNeese State University’s Shearman Fine Arts Annex.

Lancon, a vocal performance major, will perform the works of Richard Strauss, G.F. Handel, Lori Laitman and Enrique Granados.

At McNeese, Lancon has been a soloist with the Chamber Singers and has participated in various theater and opera productions, including the leading role of Kate in “Kiss Me Kate” and the role of Gretel from “Hansel and Gretel.”

She is a recipient of the Dr. Sam Emerson Endowed Music Scholarship.

Bookkeeping

seminar scheduled

The Louisiana Small Business Development Center will hold a business bookkeeping seminar 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, on the second floor of the SEED Center, 4310 Ryan St.

Topics will include cash and accrual systems, recording transactions, and expenses and depreciation. Cost is $10.
