Joining Hands for

Autism committee

expresses thanks

Autism Services of Southwest Louisiana, St. Nicholas Center for Children, and Autism Society SWLA Chapter extend thanks to all who participated, volunteered, and donated in support of the seventh annual Joining Hands for Autism awareness walk held April 1 at St. Louis Catholic High School (SLCHS).

More than 700 individuals registered for the walk, and over 50 more volunteered to solicit donations, and provide assistance and support before, during and after the event.

We are especially grateful to the support given by SLCHS Principal, Deacon Chris Fontenot, Tanya France, all the faculty and students. There were 212 students registered for the walk and raised more than $4,000 for the cause. Many students assisted in set-up before the walk, volunteered before and after the walk. The SLCHS Saints Marching Band led the parade, which helped to give all the walkers an extra beat as they walked the route.

Mayor Randy Roach was given a “Certificate of Appreciation” for the support he has given the three agencies during his time as mayor. Dr. Toby Osburn, executive director of Autism Services of SWLA presented the award.

We extend our thanks to the following individuals who led our opening and closing ceremonies: Tony Dietz, master of ceremonies; Deacon Chris Fontenot and Michelle Mudd, prayer; Councilman John Ieyoub, welcome from the city of Lake Charles; Aaron Simon, soloist for the national anthem; and Allie Ieyoub Davis, Project Fit, warm-ups. We are also grateful to Mayor Roach for proclaiming April 1, 2017, as Joining Hands for Autism Walk Day in the city of Lake Charles and for participating in the event.

The following individuals and businesses made donations of advertising, food, beverages, and cash in order to promote the event and provide refreshments for participants:
