Dolby Elementary supports Autism Society SWLA: Members of the Dolby Elementary School Lego Club collected 23,840 Mardi Gras beads for the Autism Society SWLA Chapter as part of their charity project. Their initial goal was to collect 5,000 beads. The first-grade class collected the most beads in the grade-level competition with more than 6,000, earning an ice cream party. The Autism Society collects, sorts and resells Mardi Gras beads as a fundraiser to help support opportunities for persons with Autism and their families. One of the main activities that this fundraiser supports is the Autism Camp, Camp Hopen, which is an overnight camp, at no cost to the Autistic person, packed with many structured activities.

Mayor Randy Roach recognized 21 students from area schools at a Community Commitment Awards ceremony on March 31 in the Lake Charles Civic Center. The event recognizes students who have made a difference in their community through service. They are nominated by persons from their schools, churches, or other organizations.
