McNeese offers STEAM Adventure Kids College program

McNeese State University Leisure Learning is offering A STEAM Adventure summer program as part of its Kids College from May 28 to Aug. 10 for children entering grades 1-8.

The 11-week program will offer activities, projects and field trips for students interested in engineering, nature, forensics, airplanes and rockets, physical science, chemistry and other topics. The program is offered 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with early drop-off/late pickup available.

Each week will feature a separate theme and will offer children the opportunity to participate in hands-on and outdoor activities, as well as visit Lake Charles landmarks, museums and exhibits. “Students can pick and choose their weeks based on the topic or sign up for all 11 weeks,” says May Gray, coordinator of Leisure Learning at McNeese.

Elementary and middle school certified teachers, as well as local and international McNeese students from various disciplines, will provide an environment of enrichment and fun to keep students engaged and learning over the summer.

“The program is education focused — but we never want the kids to know it,” Gray said. “This is a fabulous campus with so much to offer, and we want the children of the community to come and experience it. It’s a great opportunity for them to make friends, as well as to improve academic, artistic or physical skills and expand their horizons.”

Registration is $85, with a 20 percent discount if participants register before April 30. Cost is $189 per week. There is a discounted price for each additional child, as well as discounts for multiweek enrollment.
