McNeese radiology reaccredited

The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology announced that McNeese State University’s radiologic sciences program has been reaccredited for an additional eight years, which is the maximum length of accreditation that can be awarded, following a comprehensive review of the baccalaureate degree program offered through the College of Nursing and Health Professions.

JRCERT is the only agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation for the accreditation of traditional and distance delivery educational programs in radiography, radiation therapy, magnetic resonance and medical dosimetry.

“Specialized accreditation awarded by the JRCERT offers institutions significant value by providing peer evaluation and assuring the public of quality professional education in the radiologic sciences,” said Greg Bradley, program coordinator and head of the department of radiologic and medical laboratory science at McNeese.

JRCERT accreditation standards review a program’s integrity, resources, curriculum and academic practices that prepare students for professional careers, promotion of health and safety, assessment of student learning and institutional compliance.

Since the radiologic sciences program’s inception in 1978, McNeese students have held a 99.8 percent first-time passage rate on the national certification exam, said Bradley. “All of our students find jobs before they graduate or within six months of graduation.”

McNeese’s Bachelor of Science degree in radiologic sciences is one of only four baccalaureate degree programs offered in Louisiana, and according to Bradley, the radiologic sciences curriculum is designed to prepare students for the health care profession as competent radiographers — those who perform diagnostic imagining exams such as X-rays, CTs, mammograms, vascular studies, cardiac catheterizations or MRIs on patients.

McNeese’s radiologic sciences program has been accredited by JRCERT since 1979.
