CITY OF HOBBS MANAGER J.J. Murphy is a finalist for the Fairborn, Ohio, city manager position, as reported by the Fairborne Daily Herald on Thursday. Murphy joins Lowell Crow of Monmouth, Ill., John Jezak of Maumee, Ohio, and Thomas Thomas of Rock Island, Ill., as the four finalists. Fair-born’s Robert Anderson is an alternate candidate should one of the four finalists withdraw.

The city will host a candidate reception on Feb. 23, during which citizens are encouraged to come and meet the candidates.

Former Fairborn City Manager Deborah McDonnell announced in September 2016 that she was leaving her position for a city administrator position in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The Fairborn Council hired a search firm in November 2016. The city has since hosted forums to gather citizen and business owners opinions on what they would like to see in the next city manager. On Feb. 13, the council met in a special meeting to discuss the finalists. The search started with 36 applications, representing 17 states and half of the applicants came from Ohio.

According to the report the new city manager will be paid between $120,000 and $160,000 per year based on experience and will be included into the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System. Murphy’s current base salary in Hobbs is more than $180,000.
