INMATE DIES WHILE BEING RESTRAINED

DAYTON - A Montgomery County Jail inmate died Friday after corrections officers placed him in a restraint chair following a fight, sheriff's Lt. Brian Dershem said.

The inmate was pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital at 3:33 p.m., said Dershem, who would only describe the man as being in his late 30s. He had been booked into the jail Monday on a domestic violence charge, Dershem said.

Corrections officers intervened during an argument between the man and another inmate at 2:45 p.m. The man then fought with the officers, who put him in the chair. They were checking his restraint when they realized he was not breathing, Dershem said.

A medic on the scene tried to revive him, Dershem said. An autopsy is planned for today, according to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office.\
